Meet Rana
Monday, 2/13/23
Faithful readers,
I hope you enjoyed the introduction to Michael, my main character! Almost equally critical in the “Dark Salvation” is Rana, for reasons that you’ll find out in “Obsidian”! Enjoy, and leave any questions you have for Michael, Rana, or me below. Next time I’ll be interviewing Jabesh, Michael’s mentor in Camouraska, so be sure to come back for that.
Disclaimer: the images of the characters were generated on Canva’s Text to Image Artificial Intelligence (AI) software. They aren’t the final representation of the characters in “Dark Salvation” but, rather, visual representations of the characters so you can understand the characters better.

JOHN: Tell us about yourself. Where you’re from, what you do for a living, for fun, etc. etc.
RANA: Do I really have to do this interview?
JOHN: Yes, of course you should do it. Don’t you want people to know who you are?
RANA: Um…not really.
JOHN: It won’t take too much of your time, I promise.
RANA: <Sighs> Fine. I lived all over. I work for the family business. For fun, I like going for long walks on the beach.
JOHN: Any stories stand out from when you were a child?
RANA: Jesus. Did you copy/paste these from the Internet? I didn’t really have an awesome childhood. I moved around a lot. I have no friends and no boyfriend. Good?
JOHN: I’m married, so no thanks. Why should we like you as a main character in “Obsidian”?
RANA: I wasn’t hitting on you. You guys are all the same. I’m a lovable, snuggly person. That’s why you should all like me. I take that back. You should adore me.
JOHN: What can you tell us about Ralga now that you’ve been there for a little while?
RANA: It’s been different. They love this Energite stuff, which is starting to grow on me too. I live in the desert with some people that are angry at life. I don’t blame them. It sounds like they were treated badly and thrown out of their homes. If I were them, I’d break back in somehow.
JOHN: Do they agree with you that they should break back in as you put it?
RANA: As far as I know, no, they don’t want to. I would just do that if I were them. I’m so used to people back home wanting revenge or fighting for a lot less.
JOHN: Have you met anyone interesting on Ralga?
RANA: Not really…well, there is this girl…
JOHN: Whoa! A girl?
RANA: Why the hell am I telling you this? I don’t have a chance with her anyway.
JOHN: What about any danger? I mean, this is a science fiction novel series with some thrilling/suspenseful elements.
RANA: Ya, you are a big dork. No wonder you’re writing this. I think there’s something that can “eat you” out in the desert, at least that’s what some of the desert people said. I love a good Sasquatch story.
JOHN: Describe this thing. Is it a threat?
RANA: How the f*** should I know? I’ve only been here a few days. I’m keeping a low profile until I get better with the Energite. Being good with it is apparently a sign of strength here.
JOHN: Can you do anything cool with the Energite?
RANA: Ya, I made a cool staff with blades and can make it explode if I really concentrate. One day, maybe I’ll be able to use it to jump high. Nyla said it’s possible, though I’m not sure I trust her.
JOHN: Why don’t you trust her? I’ll be interviewing her in a few weeks and want to make sure she’s safe.
RANA: I’m sure she’s safe. Who knows? She’s the leader of the desert people along with her son, which I’m beginning to not like. Will you interview him? Don’t tell him I said that.
JOHN: Of course. Mums the word.
RANA: “Mums the word”? You’re really something else. Just write good books. I want some action and adventure, ok?
JOHN: Oh, you’ll get some action and adventure, trust me. Any parting thought for the readers?
RANA: If this guy writes in any alien experimentation, please revolt and boycott this book series. Ok, readers? Also, the answer’s 42. Now who’s the dork? <laughs>
