Meet Michael

Monday, 2/6/23

Welcome back to the home of my writing, dear followers, and now, without further ado, this is the beginning of your introduction to the characters in my novel series! 👏 First is Michael, the protagonist of “Obsidian” and the focal point of much of the action in “Dark Salvation.” Enjoy, and leave any questions you have for Michael or me below. Next time I’ll be interviewing Rana, so be sure to come back for that.

Disclaimer: the images of the characters were generated on Canva’s Text to Image Artificial Intelligence (AI) software. They aren’t the final representation of the characters in “Dark Salvation” but, rather, visual representations of the characters so you can understand the characters better.

JOHN: Tell us about yourself. Where you’re from, what you do for a living, for fun, etc. etc. We have a lot to learn from such an important person in this story series, especially since you’re the Light of Stars!

MICHAEL: First, I really don’t like the term “Light of the Stars.” Just call me Michael. I come originally from Watertown, Massachusetts and that’s where I live now. I work for True Alignment Consultants LLC as a Financial Analyst, and I’ve been there for 3 years since graduating from college. For fun, I guess I like going to the Cape or, at least, I used to…you know what? Next question.

JOHN: Any stories stand out from when you were a child?

MICHAEL: I didn’t really have a great childhood. One memory I had was going to the Cape with my best friend back then, Jenny. It was a trip I’ll never forget as long as I live.

JOHN: Why we should like you as the main character of “Obsidian”?

MICHAEL: I guess if you really want something to go on, I’m a nice guy and went to a good school. I like adventure. Are those characteristics of a good character?

JOHN: Sure. Absolutely. I feel like you’re hiding something, but that’s OK. What can you tell us about Ralga now that you’ve been there for a little while? (For your reference, reader, Ralga is a world that Michael lands on after being sent through a wormhole).

MICHAEL: I’m not hiding anything, but whatever. Ralga is something else. I’ve been learning a lot from the guy that found me when I landed, Jabesh, and he’s taught me how to use the Energite…well, at least, how to start my robe on fire <laughs>. I only saw sand outside Camouraska and that was it. I’m not sure if there are cities, forests, or anything else for that matter.

JOHN: What is Camouraska?

MICHAEL: Camouraska is the name of a huge black rock that thousands of people live in in the middle of the desert. It’s made from Energite, which people can use to make tools, start fires, weapons, and on and on. It’s pretty amazing stuff.

JOHN: Awesome! You wouldn’t happen to have any Energite I can have?

MICHAEL: No, sorry. We’re supposed to be careful with it, anyway. If there’s some way to smuggle some out, I’ll try to bring some for our next interview. Cool?

JOHN: Have you met anyone interesting on Ralga?

MICHAEL: Jabesh, like I mentioned. He’s a pretty strange guy, and I think he’s hiding something, but I really have to follow what he says. He’s the only one that I really trust so far. I also met a giant. Seriously, a giant, and…well, there is this girl…

JOHN: Whoa! A girl?

MICHAEL: <Laughs>. Ya, her name is Charlize. She’s pretty badass and beautiful. I probably don’t have a chance with her, but you never know.

JOHN: And a giant?

MICHAEL: Yeah, there was this giant guy. I think he was 12 feet tall. He looked a little sickly, but even bent over he was taller than most people I know.

JOHN: What about any danger? I mean, this is a science fiction novel series with some thrilling/suspenseful elements.

MICHAEL: Nerd much? I heard the Energite can be dangerous from Charlize. I also saw something…

JOHN: You saw something? What do you mean?

MICHAEL: I somehow connected with the Energite outside Camouraska, and I swear I saw 2 red eyes looking at me like Devil eyes or something. And there was a pretty loud screeching sound like squealing tires playing on musical instruments…yeah, I know, ridiculous stuff.

JOHN: Do you think the red eyes belonged to a monster or something?

MICHAEL: That or I was still tripping. Oh, wait, can I talk about drugs to you? Are you going to report me?

JOHN: Don’t worry, I won’t. You didn’t say you did drugs when I asked what you do for fun.

MICHAEL: I don’t normally. My friend…or, he USED TO BE my friend, Jimmy, gave me some black pills to take. I think it’s how I ended up on Ralga.

JOHN: What do you think the pills were?

MICHAEL: I don’t know. If I see him, though, I’m seriously going to beat his ***. You don’t do that to friends.

JOHN: Any parting thought for the readers?

MICHAEL: This is a book about me, I know, but don’t judge me. You don’t know me. Also, if you see my girlfriend back home, Marla, tell her it’s over. I think I’ve found someone else.
