Meet Maccus
Monday, 5/22/23
Hi, readers!
Welcome to likely the LAST character interview for Obsidian. It’s been great introducing you to the characters in the first novel of the Dark Salvation Series! Also, thank you for putting up with some of their ‘tudes (and maybe even putting up with my tude!)
The last interview is with Maccus, the leader of the council in Camouraska. He has a more minor role than some of the other characters I’ve introduced to you, but even so, he has some opinions about the Light of the Stars prophecy and his role in the community. Enjoy the last interview in this initial series, and thanks for reading J
What will happen in my blog next?! We’ll just have to see J Keep your blue-light-glasses-shielded eyes glued to your screen for more!
Disclaimer: the images of the characters were generated on Canva’s Text to Image Artificial Intelligence (AI) software. They aren’t the final representation of the characters in “Dark Salvation” but, rather, visual representations of the characters so you can understand the characters better.

JOHN: Tell us about yourself. Where you’re from, what you do for a living, for fun, etc. etc.
MACCUS: I was born on Ralga, and I’m the leader of the council of Camouraska. We try to have fun experiences for the children, but not so much for the grownups in the community. I supposed I like working in the Sky Gardens when I have time.
JOHN: I interviewed Valdesha, and she said she’s the leader of Camouraska. You’re the leader of the council. Who actually leads Camouraska?
MACCUS: I lead the group that makes the rules for the community. Valdesha merely checks to see that we are fulfilling our roles. We are both leaders in our own right.
JOHN: What are your thoughts about the Light of the Stars prophecy?
MACCUS: I’m excited to get to know Michael and the other Light of the Stars more, but my expectations are tempered, especially given Jabesh’s poor decision with the last person he thought was the Light of the Stars. Otherwise, I’m interested to find the Truth, especially with the sacrifices the Ralgans of the past made for it.
JOHN: What was Jabesh’s experience with the Light of the Stars? I believe we didn’t discuss it when I interviewed him <checks notes>.
MACCUS: Jabesh thought someone else was the Light of the Stars. He clearly wasn’t, and two Honor Guards almost died when they confronted him.
JOHN: I can’t believe I didn’t hear about that! Did they catch him?
MACCUS: No. He escaped. Now you know why I am reluctant for another Light of the Stars from Jabesh.
JOHN: Who do you think the other Light of the Stars is?
MACCUS: I don’t know. There’s so much about the prophecy that’s a mystery. I mainly focus my attention on the council and the community.
JOHN: Were you born in Camouraska or outside?
MACCUS: I was one of the first people born in Camouraska.
JOHN: Do you have any family in the community?
MACCUS: Yes. I have a partner and a son.
JOHN: Can you tell me anything else about the council? How are you elected, term lengths, etc.?
MACCUS: The community votes on new councilors every other spring season. The people cast their votes in the gathering. We have 10 people on the council from the various parts of the community: healing, food, Sky Gardens, Energite, arts, and Honor Guards. As I mentioned, we set the rules and laws of the community.
JOHN: What is one example of a law you have for the community?
MACCUS: There is the Law of the Energite. Only those that go through the proper training with the Energite can independently make potentially dangerous items.
JOHN: What is considered a dangerous item?
MACCUS: Knives and swords are examples.
JOHN: Is there anything dangerous that you can talk about? I mean, this is a science fiction novel series with some thrilling/suspenseful elements.
MACCUS: I would hope there’s no danger in Camouraska. Are you also including the desert group in this book?
JOHN: Of course.
MACCUS: The real dangers are outside the walls of Camouraska. We have the Honor Guard to protect us, and besides the issue with Jabesh’s past Light of the Stars candidate, we have a safe community. The council and I intend to keep it that way.
JOHN: <Laughs nervously>. OK, well, just so you’re not TOO surprised, danger sometimes springs up when you least expect it. Want to say anything else to our readers?
MACCUS: I wish you could find another place to focus your novel. We’re a peaceful place and people. Is there any way I can appeal to you to reconsider Camouraska as your setting?
JOHN: No, I’m sorry, but people will remember you, I hope! Camouraska has quite the story to tell.
